We understand that consumers
have a choice between celebrating with either a
real or plastic tree. We believe strongly that a real Christmas tree is better
for the environment because it can be
recycled, either by turning it into mulch, using
it in erosion prevention, or planting it outside
after the holidays.
We also know that the world is
concerned about the future of the environment.
Excitedly we explain that today around 98
percent of real Christmas trees are grown on
farms, there supporting life by absorbing carbon
dioxide and emitting fresh oxygen.
According to the National Christmas Tree Growers
Association, one acre of trees produces the daily
oxygen requirement for 18 people. With
over 1,000,000 acres g
rowing
trees today, this means that 18,000,000 people
are being supplied with oxygen.
Trees are renewable, recyclable
resources, planted to be harvested just as corn or
pumpkins. Since two, perhaps three seedlings are
planted for each harvested trees' place, this further
contributes to the environment.
Furthermore, young trees in their rapid growth
years have a high rate of photosynthesis and
thus produce even more oxygen than older trees.
Farms growing trees act to stabilize
the soil, protect our water supplies, and provide
refuge for wildlife. Tree farms may even create
scenic green belts where they were not before!
Tree customers may drop off their
tree at our farm after the holidays for recycling or
you may visit
http://earth911.org/ to find a recycling location
nearest you for your tree and other recyclable items
On the other hand, plastic trees are
made of petroleum products, consuming resources.
They are not easily biodegradable and will remain in
our land-fills for years and years to come.
Remember that trees with their roots
in tact may also be planted outside after the
holidays. We also have
planting tips!
